Having won Having lost the hearts and minds of the Syrian locals: “The Russians based nearby often raided our neighborhood,” he says. “We were terrified of them, especially the Chechen fighters. We avoided interacting with them, but it wasn’t a peaceful relationship. They were monstrous. They would often come to our market and just take whatever they wanted. But what could we do?” Abu Salmun, an elderly man standing nearby whose face is scarred by an explosion during the siege, interrupts Latif. “Under the 2018 agreement, Assad’s forces couldn’t enter Ghouta. So it was the Russians who handled security,” he explains. “Assad had the Iranians behind him, and the Iranians had the Russians behind them. In the end, it was the Russians who called all the shots.” https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2025/01/22/they-destroyed-everything-with-russia-gone-syrians-begin-a-long-painful-process-of-rebuilding-a87684

@89th said in Manchester, the 51st State....?: Ok @George-K guess we are at 2 out of 30,573. Trump is on his way! I loved the ending of the article. In short, that it happened first in 1919, and also a milestone in 1932, "none of which happened in the US", lol. I failed a physics exam in the Rutherford building, so have a real connection to this momentous event.

@taiwan_girl Don't know. If the stars align and the flights connect, I'll ask her tomorrow.

@Doctor-Phibes said in On the birthright citizenship EO: @Copper said in On the birthright citizenship EO: To be a Christian all you really need is to say "I'm a Christian", you don't even need a witness. To be fair, the same thing applies to being an asshole, although typically it's other people who say it. Or so I've heard. LOL

Clinton was the same way. Visibly buoyed by the energy of a crowd. I do a lot of public speaking in my role (much smaller scale obviously). I’ve experienced that sensation, but it’s far from automatic. These guys start feeling it before they even walk out.

The frozen packs are tough. Better to freeze fresh, if possible.

I finally got my real ID today. Passport, electric bill, drivers license, social security card and $43 - about 50 minutes at the DMV no big deal

I work just around the corner from an Amazon warehouse in the burbs. We frequently notice it on our lunchtime walk.

I've passed by her channel sometimes. I think GK has posted about her too. I have trouble stomaching the bubbliness, it's too over the top. And the repetitions drive me nuts. But I know that's probably why she's popular. Her bubbliness is genuine. Anyway, that's a great song.

@Mik said in The Ten-foot Paint Job: Isn't that really a rebranded Mitsubishi of some sort? No, the Dodge Neon was not a rebranded Mitsubishi. The Dodge Neon was developed in-house by Chrysler Corporation and was not based on any Mitsubishi platform. It was a unique design built specifically for Chrysler's compact car lineup and was sold under the Dodge, Plymouth, and Chrysler brands. Dodge-Chrysler-Mitsubishi Connection: The confusion might stem from the fact that Chrysler and Mitsubishi had a partnership through the Diamond-Star Motors (DSM) joint venture. This partnership resulted in shared platforms and rebranded vehicles like the Dodge Colt, Eagle Talon, and Mitsubishi Eclipse. However, the Neon was not part of this collaboration. The Neon was a distinct product, showcasing Chrysler's design and engineering, with no direct ties to Mitsubishi in its development or design.

@George-K said in On the legality of DOGE: Let's see what the courts say about "subject to the jurisdiction thereof". It will be an interesting argument. That's about as interesting as saying let's see what the courts say about "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State ..."
